Honeycomb Happiness - Happy Days

Hello and welcome back! Here is a card project I submitted for this week's Global Design Project #25 - Color Challenge.

Here are the colors: Daffodil Delight , Basic Grey and Smoky Slate.

It's another fun challenge and I thought what could I do using these three color combinations?  What's bright yellow and cute? ...the cute chick from Honeycomb Happiness came to my mind, and also the balloon as an accessory. This is where the fun began in creating this card. The other colors, Basic Grey and Smoky Slate was used as the shading and accents on the card.

On this happy fun themed colors, I used 'Happy Day - To You', from 'Perfect Pairings' and the name says it all. They are just perfect together, the graphic contrast looks great! I have heat embossed the sentiments to make them pop and have placed the "To You" on a smoky slate pennant for contrast.

I have white heat embossed both the chick and balloon and used watercoloring, my all time favorite medium. It just gives the card your own personality. For the color application I used the smooshing technique to apply the daffodil delight and smoky slate.  Smooshing is where you place the ink color on acetate and give it a spritz of water and then smoosh it onto the paper. You swish it around, to get this bloom of color and dab randomly to make it look organic and natural. It just adds this fun splash of color for the background! I then worked on the shading using all three colors to add definition to the chick and balloon as well as the shadow for the chick.

To add contrast, I have cut a straight line behind the chick so that the balloon and part of the body sticks out. I have mounted this on fun foam to give it an even raise, and used foam dimensionals for the smaller areas . I stamped and heat embossed the wood grain panel from "Hardwood" in smoky slate just as an accent and add interest with the texture. The combination is very striking.

I have repeated this layout on the inside of the card, however I have reversed the placement. Well, I hope you like this card as much as I have enjoyed making it. This stamp set with the chick is so cute and can be used for many different occasions. You can own both of these stamp sets for FREE with every purchase over $90 during Sale-A-Bration.
